Rangmanch Pravesh
Rangmanch Pravesh means entry onto the stage. It is a dancer’s first full-length solo performance, and a rite of passage in Indian classical dance.
Students who have completed a minimum of seven years of Kathak training and passed their theory and practical examinations are eligible. The dancer performs alone for roughly two hours, supported by live musicians, presenting pure dance and abhinaya across a range of taals and raags. The repertoire includes tukras, todas, parans, thumri, vandana, stuti, bhaav-geet, shuddha nritya, sawaal-jawaab, ghazal, bhajan, chaturang, and tarana, with storytelling drawn from Hindu mythology and poetic literature.
Our core style here is the Jaipur Gharana. Elements of Lucknow Gharana are woven in to highlight grace and expressive range.
Rangmanch Pravesh is optional. Many students choose a different path, and that is entirely fine. For those who take it on, it is a transformation from student to soloist.
