Our Approach
IDTC is a dance school and a nonprofit cultural organization. We collect personal information for one reason, which is to run the school well and keep families informed. We do not sell personal information, and we never have.
This policy explains what we collect, why we hold it, who we share it with, and the choices available to you.
-
Information We Collect
Information you give us directly
- Name, email address, phone number, and mailing address
- Student name, age or date of birth, and prior dance experience
- Class preferences, enquiry details, and trial class requests
- Emergency contact details
- Health or accessibility information you choose to share so we can teach safely
- Billing information submitted through our payment provider
- Messages you send us through forms, email, or phone

- IP address, browser type, device type, and pages visited
- Referring website and general location at city level
- Cookie data described in section 8
Information from performances and classes
- Photographs and video recorded at classes, rehearsals, recitals, and productions
-
How We Use Your Information
We use personal information to:
- Respond to enquiries and arrange trial classes
- Manage enrollment, class placement, and scheduling
- Invoice and collect fees through the student portal
- Communicate about classes, recitals, examinations, productions, and closures
- Administer student portal accounts and access
- Organize costumes, casting, and performance logistics
- Send newsletters and mailing list updates where you have subscribed
- Process and acknowledge donations
- Understand how our website is used and improve it
- Meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations
We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling.
-
Payment Information
Fees and donations are processed by a third-party payment provider. Card numbers and bank details are handled by that provider and are not stored on IDTC systems. We retain records of what was paid, when, and by whom, which is necessary for accounting.
-
How We Share Information
We share personal information only where it is needed to run the school. That includes:
- Our payment processor, for fees and donations
- Our student portal and website hosting providers
- Our email and newsletter platform, for families who have subscribed
- Examination bodies, where a student is entered for a Kathak examination
- Venues and production partners, where a performance requires it
- Professional advisors and, where legally required, government authorities
Every provider we use is expected to protect your information and use it only for the service we have engaged them for.
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
-
Students Under 18
Most of our students are children, and we treat their information with particular care.
Information about a student under 18 is provided by a parent or legal guardian at enrollment. We use it solely for teaching, safety, communication with the family, and program administration.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child under 13 through our website without parental involvement. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please contact [email protected] and we will delete it.
Student portal accounts for minors are set up and managed with the parent or guardian.
-
Photography and Video
We record classes, recitals, and productions, and we may use that material to promote IDTC on our website, on social media, and in printed programs.
You may opt out at any time by emailing [email protected]. We will exclude the student from future promotional use and will remove existing material from our own channels within a reasonable period. Material already reshared by others may be outside our control.
Practice video shared through the student portal is intended for enrolled students only and should not be posted publicly.
-
Cookies and Analytics
Our website uses cookies for basic functionality such as keeping you logged in to the student portal, and for analytics that tell us which pages people visit and how they arrived. Analytics data is aggregated and is not used to identify individuals.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Some parts of the site, including the portal login, may not work correctly if you do.
-
The Student Portal
Portal pages are password protected and restricted to enrolled students and families. They are excluded from search engine indexing, and we do not rely on unlisted links alone to keep private material private.
Access is granted at enrollment and revoked when enrollment ends. Please keep your login details to your household and tell us promptly if you think an account has been accessed by someone else.
-
Data Retention
We keep enrollment and contact records for as long as a student is enrolled, and for a reasonable period afterward so that families returning to IDTC do not have to start from scratch and so that alumni can be invited to milestone events.
Financial records are retained for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Mailing list details are kept until you unsubscribe. Photographs and video from performances form part of our historical archive and may be retained indefinitely, subject to any opt-out you have given.
You may ask us to delete your information sooner, and we will do so where no legal obligation requires us to keep it.
-
Your Rights
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended gives you the right to:
- Know what personal information we have collected about you and how it is used
- Request a copy of that information
- Request correction of information that is inaccurate
- Request deletion of your information, subject to legal exceptions
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, which we do not do
- Receive equal service and pricing whether or not you exercise these rights
To make a request, email [email protected] or call (949) 466-5220. We will verify your identity before acting, and we will respond within the timeframe the law requires. An authorized agent may make a request on your behalf with written permission.
Families outside California are welcome to make the same requests, and we will honor them wherever we reasonably can.
-
Security
We use password protection, restricted administrative access, and reputable third-party providers to protect the information we hold. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affecting your information occurs, we will notify you as required by California law.
-
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as our services or legal obligations change. The revised version will be posted here with a new effective date, and material changes will be communicated to enrolled families by email.
